I want this Christmas to be perfect so naturally I am gradually working up a full head of steam and struggling to stay calm. I always try and plan everything to the ‘nth degree to ensure the festivities run smoothly. I’m not very good at ‘laid back’. I worry about ridiculous things like a shortage of Brussels sprouts or the turkey being too dry.
Yesterday the fridge freezer started making strange noises and the fridge light went out. After giving it a good shake all seems well again; it will probably fail on Christmas Eve.
We are collecting Sarah from Heathrow on Friday evening. Warnings are already being issued about not travelling on this day as it is the busiest of the year. I have visions of us being stranded on the motorway and Sarah sitting forlornly in the Arrivals lounge.
Yesterday I put all clean, white linen on the beds. This morning Rick got very wet and muddy on his walk and decided to jump on my bed to dry off.
I think I need something stronger than a mince pie to calm my nerves. I really should pull myself together and relax, my family won’t give a toss if things aren’t perfect.
