Faves of the Week

It is time once again to join with Suzanne at Living to Tell the Story, and other blogging friends, to remember and record my favorite things about this past week.

1.  We got home from out road trip to Utah safely, and during the long car rides through Arizona, Nevada and Utah, I had some time to work on some long neglected crocheting projects.

I am finishing up a large granny square afghan I have been working on for two years and I also completed several small granny squares which, eventually, I will use to create another afghan.

2.  Charly and I had a  stay-at-home "empty nest" date night tonight, when Josh went on a fishing/camping trip with the Boy Scouts from church. I love my kids and grand kids, but it sure is nice and relaxing to have an evening for two once in a while.

We shared a take-n-bake pizza and watched the first episode of a new series on AMC, Halt and Catch Fire.  The show was interesting and I am looking forward to the next episode.  It's about the beginnings of the personal computer boom in the early 1980s and is so far, quite engrossing.  Later, when the sun goes down, we will take a walk, and possibly a moonlight swim for two.

3.  Charly and I worked together to make several batches of the homemade laundry detergent we use.

We were getting a bit low, but now have enough put aside for the next six months to a year. We have been making our own detergent for about two years now, and are so happy with the results for our clothing and our pocket book, I doubt that we will ever go back to store bought detergent.

4.  Josh's passport came in the mail, even earlier than we expected it would.

That is good because we had to have the passport before we could complete the paperwork for his Mexican Visa.  Now all the paperwork is complete and in the mail. Visas to Latin American countries can take a while, we've been told, so we are glad that the process is moving along.

5.  On Tuesday, Charly interviewed for a new teaching position.  On Wednesday afternoon, he was offered the job, but with a catch.  The position is a for a combined Social Studies and Language Arts teacher and Charly had not passed the official Language Arts test even though he is certified in Social Studies, and has a reading endorsement.   In order to take the job, Charly would have to pass the Language Arts test as soon as possible.  The next available testing time was the very next morning - Thursday.  Charly signed up for the test and, without much study or review, took it.   His score was...

A passing score!    He is now just waiting for confirmation from the Arizona Department of Education and the school district to make everything official.   Charly taught math last year, but is looking forward to once again teaching history and social studies, which is where his real interest lies.

While there have been a few ups and downs (of the parenting variety) it has, all-in-all been a good week, with many blessings for which we are all grateful.

"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us...[u]nto him be glory...by Christ Jesus throughout all ages...amen."
--Ephesians 3:20-21
